The success of this Italian dessert treasure is “go easy on the cream cheese” without even buying the expensive mascarpone cheese. I buy the quart size container of heavy whipping cream simply for 3 things: ice cream, alfredo fettucine and tiramisu.
Don’t have to spend a fortune to cook up this Italian classic dessert, and it is that easy too!
2 packs ladyfingers (Balocco ladyfingers preferably)
1/4 cup warm water
2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
2 tablespoons Kahlua (you can use rum or brandy)
1/4 cup cold water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cream cheese filling:
2 cups whipping cream, whipped
1/2 bar cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
About 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting
Line the bottom of an 8-inch square Pyrex dish with ladyfingers (trim to fit); set aside.
In a small bowl, dissolve instant coffee granules in warm water. Add the rest of soaking ingredients and mix well; set aside.
In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and sugar until smooth and well mixed. Blend in the whipped cream and beat until thoroughly combined.
Assembly: Brush half of the soaking syrup over ladyfingers. Spoon half of the cream cheese filling over the soaked ladyfingers. Repeat layering: ladyfingers, soaking syrup and cream cheese filling. Lastly, using small strainer, dust unsweetened cocoa powder over the top of the cream cheese filling. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours before serving. And I really mean it…eat all you can!
Use this recipe and make necessary ingredients substitutions to make “berries” tiramisu, buco pandan tiramisu or green tea tiramisu.
