The Chicago Launch of the DEWAR’S “Browne Bag” with top designer Thom Browne was at the plush Public Hotel. With the news of celebrated menswear designer, Thom Browne, in town for a meet-and-greet, attendance was jam-packed. Along with DEWAR’S cocktails, Public Hotel served mouth-watering hors d’oeuvres specially prepared for the Thom Browne event. Thom Browne appeared so calm, poised and was very approachable (we asked for a quick snapshot with him, and he happily obliged!).
To fully understand and appreciate Thom Browne’s trademark minimalist design, I went online and read about minimalist style and the meaning of gray, which was Browne’s color choice of the gift bag with every purchase of DEWAR’S Blended Scotch Whisky. And here’s what I gathered:
*minimalist style” goal is to strip down the elements to their most fundamental features. In decorating, it means removing unnecessary items from the decor and finding beauty in simplicity.
*”less is more”, goal was “doing more with less,” and “less is better.”
*Gray is the true neutral color. It has a stabilizing effect, making vibrant colors stand out while muting their vibration. It is good for use as a background color.
*To dislike Gray is to dislike neutrality. It remains quietly in the background observing, detached, having no need to compete or prove anything. Its strength is quiet, timeless, and classic. It is a sophisticated color without much of the negative attributes of black.
The press release as follows…
DEWAR’S Blended Scotch Whisky announces the “DEWAR’S Browne Bag”, a gift bag collaboration with celebrated menswear designer, Thom Browne, just in time for the holiday season. For the designer’s first-ever collaboration outside his artistic arena, Browne breathes new life and sophistication into an otherwise everyday object. The limited-edition DEWAR’S Browne Bag smartly outfits a bottle of DEWAR’S 12-Year Old with Browne’s trademark minimalist design and aesthetic.
According to Thom Browne, “I wanted to bring my signature aesthetic to the project, elevating the traditional liquor store brown bag into a fashionable tote that bears my label. ” Note that the colors red, white and blue for the handle bears his label, and is very apparent in Thom Browne’s current ready-to-wear collection.
A perfect elegant gift, the DEWAR’S 12-year-old with Browne bag is now available at select fine wine and spirits store.
